A German brigade consisting of almost 5 thousand military personnel will be stationed in Lithuania.

Germany agreed to send thousands of troops to the Russian border. The brigade of approximately 4,800 soldiers stationed along the Lithuanian-Russian border will be operational in 2027.

As reported Sky News, the agreement between Germany and Lithuania will mark the first permanent deployment of German troops since World War II.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius compared the “historical” an agreement to station Allied forces in West Germany to defend Western Europe in the event of a Soviet attack during the Cold War.

“This flank has now moved east and it is Germany’s responsibility to protect it,” Pistorius said.

Most personnel will redeploy to the Russian border in 2025 and 2026. Military personnel and their families will be offered “attractive conditions of service”, in particular German-language schools and housing.

“The speed of the project clearly shows that Germany has understood the new security reality,” he added.

  1. Well, I do believe we already have troops there, just on a non-permanent deployment until now. And let’s not forget that Western Germany previously did share a border with the Warzaw Pact, including Russian occupation troops in the DDR, until 1990. However, this still is a sign that German government is taking the threat for serious again, I agree. A decisive departure from Merkel’s horribly wronheaded appeasement policy.

    • I’m only guessing, but I believe clear minded Boris Pistorius would. It must be Olaf Scholz who’s blocking this. What “kompromat” does the GRU use to blackmail him? I suspect it’s something he had said or done while visiting communist Eastern Germany as a young socialist. 🙁

      • This could be very true, Mr. Gray. Mafia land has always been good at collecting kompromat on VIPs and even on lesser individuals, who might become VIPs some day.

        • Right, Mr. Ofp! And let”s remember that Putin had been a KGB agent in Eastern Germany at the very same time. Some documents by DDR security agency Stasi have been destroyed in 1989, but Putler sure kept his copies.
          🙁

          • And, I can imagine that since being the leader of the crap hole, he’s gained access to many other documents that were out of his reach while in the KGB.
