Why does Russia target sleeping civilians?

Please read this text from Jake McGrew, who survived a russian attack on Kyiv.

Jake was one of my first hires at American University Kyiv. He is a U.S. citizen who moved to Ukraine during the war to teach Ukrainian students. But American leadership has betrayed all of us.

“Last night, I went to bed hoping for a quiet night.

There were drones in the sky, but none near Kyiv, so I thought maybe, just maybe, I’d get a few hours of peaceful sleep. That’s become a rare thing lately.

At 3 AM, a massive explosion shook my apartment. The blast lit up my room like it was broad daylight. I thought the neighboring building had been hit, so I rushed to get dressed and head to the shelter.

But when I opened my door, smoke rushed in. Alarms were sounding. People were running to the stairwell. That’s when I realized it was our building that had been struck by a russian missile or drone.

The elevator had been destroyed, so we ran down 10 flights of stairs. Halfway down, another drone flew so close we had to duck into a side hallway. The sound alone was terrifying.

When we finally reached the ground floor, destruction was everywhere: shattered glass, broken wood, smoke, debris. My car windows were blown out. We huddled in the shelter for over an hour as more explosions hit nearby. Later, three more missiles struck infrastructure close to us, filling the sky with thick black smoke.

As I write this, helicopters are still outside trying to put out fires caused by the strikes.

And I’ve just learned that a mother and her 3-year-old child died in the attack last night.

I don’t know if they lived just six floors above me. I’m too scared to find out.

I don’t understand how this kind of hatred exists. Why does russia target sleeping civilians? Why does it work so relentlessly to destroy Ukrainian lives and cities?

If you’re reading this from outside Ukraine, I ask: please don’t look away.

Contact your government representatives. Push for stronger support for Ukraine. Demand harsher sanctions against the terrorist state that is russia.”

…………..

Trump: “I am ready to move to the second stage of sanctions against russia.”

First, he promised to end the war in “24 hours.” Then it was “two more weeks.” Then another lie. And another. Nine months have passed—and only now he’s “ready” to talk sanctions?

Putin doesn’t care. At all. Trump has proven himself a dysfunctional leader. Since taking office, he has halted military aid to Ukraine, cut intelligence sharing, and openly sided with Putin. Instead of sanctioning russia, he welcomed a war criminal to the U.S. with a red carpet.

The result? Ukrainian civilian casualties have tripled. Let’s call it what it is: Trump has been lying all along, and his words are worth nothing.

I am so fed up with the lies and plain cognitive dissonance.

Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg, says russia’s strike on the government building in Kyiv “shows no intention” of ending the war through “diplomacy”. And then, in the same breath, he claims: “President Trump is working to stop this war.”

Please, stop this nonsense. The reality is simple: the main reason russia has escalated is because of Trump. He stopped military aid, cut intelligence sharing, and openly sided with Putin. Instead of placing sanctions on russia, he invited a war criminal to the U.S., rolling out the red carpet for him.

So let’s call it what it is: lies, disinformation, and dangerous cognitive dissonance.

  1. “lies, disinformation, and dangerous cognitive dissonance.”

And that is from what Ukrainians were previously entitled to believe are friends of theirs.

  2. “Why Does russia Target Sleeping Civilians?”

“The difficulty in understanding the russian is that we do not take cognizance of the fact that he is not a European, but an Asiatic, and therefore thinks deviously. We can no more understand a russian than a Chinaman or a Japanese, and from what I have seen of them, I have no particular desire to understand them, except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them. In addition to his other Asiatic characteristics, the russian have no regard for human life and is an all out son of bitch, barbarian, and chronic drunk.”

I have always agreed with Gen. Patton about the subhuman creatures known as russians. Killing is in their DNA. Living like a drunk slob, too.
