White House now streaming “Trump TV” – around the clock

In the midst of the latest dispute between US President Donald Trump and US media, the White House on Monday released its own streaming channel called “Trump TV.”

It will feature “the most important moments of the Trump administration” around the clock, which the White House defines as “top videos, major remarks, and must-see highlights.”

In addition to speeches by Trump, it initially showed exercises by the US military, accompanied by a commentator praising the capabilities of the US armed forces, reports the dpa news agency. No original productions were initially visible.

The release of “Trump TV” was preceded by a dispute between the US President and several US media outlets, which had gained momentum before Monday. Trump first announced on Friday that he was revoking CNN, MS NOW, and Politico’s access to the White House with immediate effect. They have sued in response. In reaction, the major US television networks have restricted their daily coverage of the US President’s events and suspended the so-called pool principle. Under this principle, one network collects video and audio material, which is then made available to the others. This avoids all networks having to film and record simultaneously, reducing effort and costs.

The suspension of the pool principle had visible consequences on Monday. During a press conference at the White House, Trump spoke for minutes but was inaudible on the White House livestream. Unlike usual, the TV pool journalists were not present with their cameras and microphones, which is why Trump’s statements were inaudible. Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN have so far participated in the pool principle for the US President’s television broadcasts, but all five television networks have currently suspended this cooperation. The White House has been offering a livestream of Trump’s appearances for some time.

Trump has repeatedly opted for confrontations with the media, most recently complaining that they were not reporting enough on his achievements. That is now supposed to end: “Not every big moment has made it on your tv, now it can,” the White House explained on X. The advertising for the channel consists of short clips from well-known TV series, including Spongebob, Family Guy, Seinfeld, Friends, and The Office. The channel is currently available on YouTube; on Tuesday morning, for example, around 1300 people were watching the White House Easter celebration there.

  1. “Trump has repeatedly opted for confrontations with the media, most recently complaining that they were not reporting enough on his achievements.”

Maybe a 10s video wouldn’t attract many viewers. Reporting on his failures would make a far better video, and a longer one.

    • I think my profile was cut in half. I asked WordPress to restore my account, but in the app i’m no longer tied to UAToday, have a cucumber avatar, while on Chrome i still have access and my original avatar. Any ideas? Does the cucumber have to be reinvited to merge again?
