The Presidents of Ukraine and France agreed on further cooperation to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for the decision to transfer Bastion light tanks and armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
As stated in a message on Zelensky’s Telegram channel, the President of Ukraine noted that he had a long and detailed conversation with Macron regarding the current situation.
“I thanked for the decision to transfer light tanks and Bastion to Ukraine, as well as for intensifying work with partners in the same direction. We agreed on further cooperation to significantly strengthen our air defense and other defense capabilities. We also agreed to work on the implementation of the peace formula,” Zelensky said.
He thanked Macron and added that his leadership “accelerates our victory.”
What is an armored personnel carrier Bastion
Bastion is a French multi-purpose armored personnel carrier manufactured by Acmat.
BTR Bastion are delivered to Africa, the Middle East and North America.
In October 2022, it became known that France will transfer 20 ACMAT Bastion wheeled armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.

Already in the 1990’s they have decided what equipment they could keep and what had to be dismantled (which often meant: give to Russia for “disassembly”).
By 2008 the Ukrainian armed forces were already scraped bare.
