Trump has chosen a special envoy to Ukraine. And he has already described his peace plan.

Donald Trump has decided to appoint Keith Kellogg as his special envoy to Ukraine . This is probably the answer to the question of how exactly Trump plans to end the war in Ukraine. CNN writes about this .

Kellogg, 80, is a former national security adviser to Trump. He outlined his vision for a Ukraine peace deal back in April, so it may be the plan the Trump administration will try to implement.

The plan is to achieve a rapid ceasefire and freeze the front line, after which both sides should sit down at the negotiating table. But things get more complicated from there, CNN notes.

Thus, Kellogg says that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is in fact a very distant prospect, which was previously offered to Kyiv as a sign of symbolic solidarity. Therefore, this prospect should be abandoned for an indefinite period “in exchange for a comprehensive peace agreement with security guarantees.”

Kellogg’s plan also stipulates that any future U.S. aid to Ukraine – likely in the form of a loan – would be contingent on the outcome of negotiations between Kiev and Moscow.

After the front line is frozen, the plan calls for a demilitarized zone to be created along that line. Russia would receive limited sanctions relief for agreeing to this, with full sanctions relief only after a peace deal that Ukraine likes is signed.

The demilitarized zone will probably need to be guarded. But it is not clear who will do this – NATO troops or soldiers from neutral countries.

The United States will not demand that Ukraine give up the territories occupied by Russia, but, according to the Kellogg plan, Kyiv must agree to an exclusively diplomatic path to their return.

There are also plans to introduce a special tax on Russian energy exports to finance the restoration of Ukraine.
