Bolton warned that Trump’s 28-point peace plan rewards Russia’s aggression, forcing Kyiv to face a difficult choice.
Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton has harshly condemned President Donald Trump’s 28-point proposal to end the war in Ukraine, saying the plan was drawn up from a “Russian perspective.”
“The Russians couldn’t have written a better deal themselves. This is a sellout of Ukraine. And for anyone who thought Trump was supportive of Ukraine, this proves once again: he doesn’t care,” Bolton said on the program “NewsNation On Balance” with Leland Vittert, as quoted by The Hill.
He said that for Trump, the peace plan is “part of the fight for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
Bolton compared the plan to the appeasement policy, using Neville Chamberlain as an example:
“This treaty rewards unprovoked aggression. If Ukraine agrees, it will signal to Russia and China that aggression can be successful.”
He called on Zelensky and American advisers to persuade Trump to make changes to the plan, emphasizing that a complete overhaul, not minor adjustments, is needed.
The former adviser has been a constant critic of Trump since his first term. Last month, a federal grand jury indicted Bolton for transmitting and possessing classified national defense information, but the case is still slowly making its way to trial.
