Sweden has decided to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s maritime capabilities.

The Swedish government has already instructed the Coast Guard to prepare 10 boats, which will later be transferred to Ukraine.

The 10 Coast Guard boats will be provided as a free aid package.

The Swedish government’s press service announced that the Coast Guard has been ordered to ready the vessels for delivery to Kyiv. Swedish Coast Guard equipment will be removed from the boats as it is not needed by the Ukrainian side.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency will handle the transport of the boats to Ukrainian territory.

All of the Swedish Coast Guard boats will be handed over to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES). The vessels will be used for rescue missions, demining river channels, and other operations.

This week, the Swedish government also tasked the country’s armed forces with allocating more than 270 million Swedish kronor (about $28.4 million) to support Ukraine’s defense, primarily its air defense systems.

Of this sum, $14 million will be contributed to the PURL program, under which NATO members purchase weapons and ammunition from the United States and then transfer them to Kyiv.

This initiative has been active since 2025, following US President Donald Trump’s refusal to provide free weapons to Ukraine. As a result, Sweden will purchase $552 million worth of American arms for Ukraine.

Previously, Sweden announced a 21st military aid package for Ukraine, totaling around $1.4 billion. Sweden has also expressed readiness to bolster Ukraine’s air force with its Gripen fighter jets.
