Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced an official appeal to the International Telecommunication Union demanding that it not provide frequencies for the operation of the Russian military satellite system “Rassvet” over the sovereign territory of Ukraine.

Countermeasures against the Rassvet system

“Today we officially appealed to the International Telecommunication Union with a demand to exclude the national territory of Ukraine from the declared service areas of all beams of the networks of the Russian military satellite system “Rassvet” in all frequency bands.

“The corresponding note was transmitted to the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau through our Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva,” the minister said.

He stressed that the purpose of Russia’s use of such satellites over the territory of Ukraine is absolutely clear and has nothing to do with civilian purposes. Instead, Moscow seeks to use them to support its war, murder, and genocidal crimes.

“We call on all partners to support our position and block the operation of the Rassvet system – not only over the sovereign territory of Ukraine, but also over the sovereign territories of other countries.

“We will continue to promote international diplomatic countermeasures against the Rassvet system. We thank the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ukrainian State Center for Radio Frequencies for the prompt coordination of these efforts,” he added.

Recall, it was previously reported that the Russian Federation is actively deploying its own analogue of Starlink – the Rassvet system, which should have 924 satellites by 2035.
