On the night of September 22, Ukraine launched a strike on the Samara region of the Russian Federation. The target of the strike was the Kuibyshev oil refinery.
As a result of the strike on the refinery, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the facility. This is reported by the monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Circumstances of the attack
An air alert was declared in the region starting at 01:30 local time. Temporary restrictions on aircraft departures and arrivals were introduced at Samara airport overnight to ensure flight safety.
According to the statement of the regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, air defense systems were operating in the region. Official Russian agencies and local authorities did not publish detailed reports on the exact damage to infrastructure or fires at oil refineries.
In turn, monitoring channels confirm strikes on the territory of the refinery. After the explosions, a huge column of black smoke rose above the enterprise.
Despite numerous confirmations from local residents about an attack on the refinery, the Samara governor continued to claim that the Russians woke up at night only “from the sounds of air defense.”
The official stated that “mobile fire groups fulfilled their combat duty with full dedication and shot down dozens of drones.” The governor said that damage was recorded to civilian objects, including private houses and cars. The official decided not to comment on the strikes on the refinery and the huge fire at the enterprise.
What is known about the company?
Kuibyshev Oil Refinery is one of the largest enterprises in the Volga region’s oil refining industry, part of the structure of PJSC Rosneft.
The plant is located in the Kuibyshev district of the city of Samara. The design capacity of the crude oil refining plant is 7 million tons per year.
The company uses West Siberian oil as raw material, as well as raw materials from local deposits in the Samara region . The refinery specializes in the production of high-quality motor fuels, including automotive gasoline and diesel fuel of the Euro-5 environmental standard, jet fuel, commercial fuel oil, petroleum coke, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases.
The plant’s production complex includes primary oil refining units ELOU-AVT, as well as secondary process facilities. The latter include catalytic cracking, catalytic reforming, isomerization, hydrotreating of diesel fuels and gasoline, visbreaking and gas fractionation.
As OBOZ.UA reported, on the night of September 20, the Moscow region of the Russian Federation came under a massive drone attack. As a result of the attack, a massive fire broke out at a warehouse complex in the settlement of Sof’ine. There are also reports of damage to the oil refinery in Kapotny and a strike on a thermal power plant in Lyubertsy.
OBOZ.UA also wrote that after the attack, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise , and previously, the damage could have occurred in the area of the ELOU-AVT-6 installation. The Moscow Refinery is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia and plays an important role in providing fuel to Moscow and the Moscow region.
