On the night of October 17, explosions rocked the Russian city of Sochi . Local authorities announced they had repelled drone and missile attacks. Additionally, flight restrictions were imposed at nine airports across Russia.
Around three in the morning, the mayor of Sochi reported that the air defense system was repelling a drone attack on the city.
“All services have been put on high alert. The city’s emergency response center is coordinating this. I ask Sochi residents and visitors to remain calm and observe necessary safety precautions. If you live near the coastline, do not go outside under any circumstances; stay indoors without windows,” wrote Andrey Proshunin.
At the same time, a video from Sochi appeared on the Telegram channel “Astra,” in which the sounds of sirens and explosions can be heard. At the time, it was reported that tourists from hotels were being forced into basements and underground parking garages.

Around five in the morning, Proshunin announced an alleged missile attack on the city.
He called for no videos of air defense systems in action, no debris from downed targets, and no intelligence agency work to be published on social media.
According to Russian media, in addition to Sochi Airport, restrictions on takeoffs and landings were introduced at eight other airports, namely Krasnodar, Samara, Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Ufa, and Yaroslavl.
