After the expiration of the current contract for the purchase of gas through the Yamal gas pipeline in December, Poland will stop buying gas from Russia.

This was stated by the Polish Government Commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Piotr Naimski on RMF FM, European Truth reports.

According to Naimsky, Russian gas accounts for a large share of Polish imports, but the state-owned company PGNiG can replace it. It has a portfolio of contracts that will replace Russian supplies.

As Naimsky reminded, “in October we will put into operation the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, we already have an expanded LNG terminal”, and other infrastructure will be ready, such as gas connections with Lithuania and Slovakia.

“When it comes to procurement, we are also ready,” he said.

According to Naimsky, the prices in these purchases “should not be much more expensive.”

“For many years, we paid for Russian gas from a monopolistic supplier that could dictate a price higher than could be obtained in Western Europe. Prices will be European,” he said.

According to him, the current very high European prices are stabilizing, as all buyers in Europe are trying to switch to other than Russian procurement.

“In the United States, which sends liquefied gas to Europe, the price of gas on the stock exchange has not risen at all, the globalization of the gas market will lead to affordable prices,” he said.

Naimsky also stressed that the Polish government is in favor of an immediate embargo on oil supplies from Russia.

“Our refineries can switch to other oil supplies, this was practiced in 2019, when Russian oil was contaminated and its flow had to be stopped,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that PKN Orlen’s refineries are supplied with raw materials for several months ahead, they will continue to operate smoothly, even if Russian supplies are interrupted due to sanctions against Russia.
