The weapons that President Biden has authorized Ukraine to use will give it greater ability to defend itself, the American diplomat noted.
US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to fire long-range weapons at Russia, US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols said in an interview for O Globo.

Asked whether Biden’s decision could lead to an even greater escalation of the war, Nichols replied:
“We have to remember that the war began with a new unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine. The conflict in Ukraine can end right now if Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine and respects Ukraine’s borders. It always has. The weapons that President Biden has authorized Ukraine to use will give it a greater ability to defend itself and hopefully will allow the Russian Federation to understand that using force to seize Ukrainian territory will not succeed and perhaps negotiate peace or, better yet, simply withdraw from Ukrainian territory. They are the ones who have complete control over whether this conflict continues.”
The G20 itself is expected to make a clear call to end the conflict in Ukraine. However, it is not known whether this will be included in the final declaration of the leaders.
