Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, Commander of Unmanned Systems Forces, has outlined how the Baltic states could effectively repel a potential Russian offensive.
He shared the remarks in an interview with Irish journalist Caolan Robertson.
As the first step, Magyar called for the immediate establishment of a 2-to-5-kilometer-wide buffer zone along the border with Russia. According to him, such a zone provides an “optimal” operating environment for UAVs.
The concept envisions an area in which enemy movement would be effectively denied through the deployment of a dense drone “shield.”
According to Brovdi, achieving this would also require preparing the terrain by clearing selected forested areas and modifying the landscape.
As the second element, he called for deploying an unlimited fiber-optic communications network capable of connecting UAV launch sites.
This would allow operators to control drones remotely from protected command posts.
The third priority, according to Magyar, is the immediate establishment of a mobile air defense unit specialized in countering various types of drones — from FPVs and ISRs to Shahed-type LMs.
The fourth step involves creating, within each brigade, separate Unmanned Systems Forces units comprising at least 300 crews with various areas of responsibility: from patrolling and in-depth reconnaissance to FPV and nighttime multicopter missions.

The fifth element is the development of Deep Strike and Middle Strike capabilities, enabling not only defense but also retaliatory strikes.
The Baltic states are already taking steps to protect their borders from Russian drones. In particular, it was reported in late May that Estonian border guards had installed the first stationary systems for detecting and monitoring UAVs along the border with Russia.
Europe would do well to listen to this guy. They don’t need a thousand meetings, just do it.
They will get dick cancer without their meetings.
The Baltic States can count on the Scandinavian Air Force. Poland is more a target anyway. I respect Magyar more or less, but he is leaning too far out the window.
