Hungary opposes aid package for Ukraine.

Hungary has blocked the European Union from allocating 20 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, Politico reports , citing the draft conclusions of the EU Council.

The latest draft of the EU Council conclusions, which European ambassadors are due to consider today, has removed a direct reference to new military funding proposed by Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas.

The publication notes that Hungary is most likely committed to strengthening the EU’s defense, but is categorically opposed to the aid package for Ukraine.

“Hungary’s objections to security guarantees and new aid came before Trump and Vance teamed up against Zelensky in the Oval Office. But the new world order doesn’t seem to have had much of an impact on the wallets of EU capitals,” Politico notes.

Also in a letter seen by reporters, EU Council President Antonio Costa appeared to admit defeat in his campaign to bring Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban onto the aid package.

“I note that there are differences of opinion regarding the path to peace and, in particular, the ‘peace through strength’ approach,” Costa noted.

In turn, he noted “broad agreement” on the need for Europe to become “more sovereign, more capable and better equipped” to address security issues.

In addition to Orbán, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has also issued his objections. EU diplomats say other capitals, including Paris, are also “pleased to see the funding package moving slowly.”

“(European Commission President – UNIAN) Von der Leyen is likely to come up with more creative ways to get reluctant EU member states to support Ukraine rather than provide aid. One possible option, according to the diplomat, could be a requirement that 20 percent of new loans available for defense spending be directed toward helping Kyiv,” the article says.

Politico added that the EU has already allocated 60 billion euros in military aid for Ukraine until 2025, so this money will definitely be provided.

    • Those that say holding up military aid for Ukraine will speed up the end of the war don’t know what they’re talking about and they certainly don’t know ruSSians or Ukrainians. ruSSians would LOVE to attack defenseless Ukrainians, it would be a dream for them. As for Ukrainians, if they run out of ammo, they will chew through Moskali helmets if they have to but they will NEVER stop fighting as long as there is even one ruSSki occupier.
