The United States is already negotiating with the Russians about the war in Ukraine, Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News , but he claims that President Donald Trump is not taking Russia’s statements as truth in those talks.

“He’s negotiating with the Russians where there’s give and take and trust but verify. That’s diplomacy,” Vance said.
Vance also said that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “gets serious about the details,” the U.S. would be willing to talk again.
“I think if he calls and makes a serious proposal about how he’s going to engage in the process. Look, there are details that are really important that we’re already working on with the Russians. We’ve talked to some of our allies, he needs to get serious about the details,” Vance said.
He also said that the Ukrainian president would “eventually” have to reach a peace agreement.
“He has demonstrated a clear reluctance to engage in a peace process that President Trump has said is the policy of the American people and their president. And I think, frankly, he’s still not in that position right now, but I think he eventually has to do it,” Vance said.
