“His return could be a big victory for the world”: ex-Prime Minister Johnson unexpectedly supported Trump

Boris Johnson clarified that this is possible provided that Trump supports Ukraine.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a Donald Trump presidency “could be exactly what the world needs.”

The main focus of his column on the pages of the Daily Mail is dedicated to the war in Ukraine.

“My thoughts, of course, are first and foremost with Ukraine. They can, should and will win. This will require patience and determination from their friends in the West – and so, yes, I am disturbed by the defeatist nonsense I read, and I am disturbed by the thought that some members of the Republican Party seem to want to condemn a sovereign and democratic European country to darkness and tyranny. First, ask yourself: which American president was the first to stand up for Ukraine after Putin’s invasion in 2014? Was it the great liberal- internationalist Barack Obama? No, sir. He did nothing to oust Putin from Ukraine – neither from Crimea, nor from Donbass. Nor did the French, nor the Germans, nor, frankly, the then British government, which decided – mysteriously “Wash your hands and entrust the fate of Ukrainians to the morally bankrupt Normandy format,” the politician wrote.

It was Trump, Johnson notes, who gave the Javelin ATGM to the Ukrainians, which was so valuable to the Ukrainians in the battle for Kyiv; and thanks at least in part to Trump’s bold decision, the Ukrainians “were able to stun the world and force Putin’s troops to flee the Ukrainian capital.”

Johnson writes that he “simply cannot believe” that Trump will abandon the Ukrainians. On the contrary, the politician suggests, he will probably understand that he cannot reach an agreement with Putin, and will redouble his efforts, giving Ukraine everything it needs to win.

According to him, if Trump had been president for the past 4 years, Putin would not have dared to attack.

“It was Trump who suddenly stunned the world in early 2020 with the brutal assassination of Qassem Soleimani, head of the IRGC. We didn’t hear much from Iran until the end of Trump’s presidency, did we? Or take Syria, where Bashar al-Assad poisoned his own people in 2013 with an illegal chemical weapons. What did America do under Barack Obama? Nothing. Trump dealt him such a powerful blow and destroyed so many of his planes that Assad never used chemical weapons again. So to all my highly intelligent anti-Trump friends, I say: calm down, friends. Than The more you froth and worry, the more determined his supporters will be – and a Trump victory will continue to grow from possibility to probability to certainty. We all need to grow up and come to terms with this prospect. If he does the right thing and supports the Ukrainians – and I do, that he does this, a Trump presidency could be a great victory for the whole world,” he added.

Trump’s statements on the war in Ukraine

Former US President Donald Trump once again promised to resolve the situation with the war in Ukraine “very quickly” . The controversial politician is confident that he will be able to attract the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, whom he “knows well,” to dialogue.

Trump said this during a speech after winning the Republican primaries in Iowa. An advantage, he said, is that he gets along “very well” with Putin.

  1. The strike against Syria for chemical weapons use amounted to a slap on the wrist. Although hangars were damaged, the Syrians were warned in advance (we told the rashists and the rashists told the Syrians) so that the aircraft were moved. The damage to the runway was so minor, that planes were able to use it mere hours later. Syria continued to use chemical weapons but masked them by mixing non banned chemicals with them.

    • This was from the military report after the strike. If you believe your military.

“The strike was conducted using Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) launched from the destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. A total of 59 TLAMs targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars. As always, the U.S. took extraordinary measures to avoid civilian casualties and to comply with the Law of Armed Conflict. Every precaution was taken to execute this strike with minimal risk to personnel at the airfield.”

Also, it is common for militaries to inform each other of strikes and exercises. Especially when said nations have nukes and to avoid bombing civilians. You should know that.

  2. This is an excellent article that counter balances the vast majority of articles posted on Ukraine today. Many of Ukraine Today’s postings tend to shallowly and libelously attack Republicans as “pro-russian”, continually promote democratic party talking points, and constantly ignore the Biden Administration’s too little/too late, no we won’t/ yes we will “support” of Ukraine which has directly led to the current stalemate.

I have no desire for Trump to be reelected President, but the incessant anti Trump hysteria by many on this site in regards to aid to Ukraine is over the top, possibly misleading, and counter productive. Reread Boris Johnson comments. Is it indeed possible that Trump may end up being a bigger support to Ukraine than you as a democratic partisan believe? Would Boris Johnson have greater insight than you in what actions Trump might take?

The vast majority of Republicans including Senator’s and Representatives wish to continue military support for Ukraine. Making Ukrainian support a partisan issue by demonizing Republicans will accomplish nothing except becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.

    • That’s much of what I’ve been saying too Fed Up. Thank you. The Liberals in the media and the Libertarians like Carlson and others have pushed this into a partisan feud imo. I hope Johnson is right, he and many others are saying what you and I are saying too.

      • You have described the nazi-lover Carlson as a “libertarian” on multiple occasions.
Clearly you have no self-awareness and no shame.

        • Here we go again, I’m not allowed an opinion without being attacked. You just can’t accept the fact some people have different opinions than you. You’re more like putler than you think. If you had an ounce of fairness in your body you would see Carlson attacks both sides and believes in wild conspiracy theories just like the rest of the hateful annoying Libertarians.

    • Thank you Fed Up. I agree 100% with Boris – it’s the opinion I’ve been championing here in quite a number of comment sections in Trump-related articles over the past year. What happened to Soleimani and al-Baghdadi? Putin is terrified of Trump because Trump is an unpredictable assassin. Bad guys get a day of reckoning when Trump is in the white house. Despite what Trump says to get elected, the reality he will face in office is that putin is a bad guy with disturbing similarities to hitler, soleimani, and al-baghdadi.

    • It’s like we’re reading two different groups. I haven’t seen any comments on this primarily-Republican site attacking Republicans in general. The Republicans who are attacked are the pro-putler scum who are blocking desperately-needed support for Ukraine.

“Is it indeed possible that Trump may end up being a bigger support to Ukraine”

Sure. It’s also possible that monkeys might fly out of my butt. But neither is very likely.

      • It is more than likely there are MORE Democrats “pro-putler” than Republicans. Mainly because the Democrat ideology is much, much more similar than Republicans. Just because some Republicans vote against a bill making sausage in D.C. doesn’t mean they are pro-putin, that’s just the propensity of fascists to unjustly label people for political purposes.

        • That’s the most idiotic thing I have heard in times. Putin and his party are conservative, for family values, hating gays and are part of the extreme-right. Seems familiar, right?

Liberals and Putin have absolutely 0 in common.

          • You are right anonymous. The true liberal who traditionally believes in the personal freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights has nothing in common with Putin. However some of today’s modern ”progressives” may in some cases be a a different story.

Anonymous you do know that the Nazi party in Germany was actually socialist? Don’t believe me, look up what was the party’s official name.

Far right/far left often become the same thing as they both become dictatorships/totalitarian with a total lack of of human dignity and rights. One of the first things to go is freedom of speech/total intolerance of anyone who disagrees with their secular religion/political ideology. Any “deniers” must be destroyed – in all arenas of life.
Socially, economically their jobs and careers destroyed, publicly demeaned and shamed, and “forcibly” re-educated.

            Think about it……

            • “look up what was the party’s official name.”

Did you know that North Korea is Democratic? (It’s in the name – “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” – so it must be true!)

“National Socialism” includes the word “socialism”, but it is just a word. Hitler and the Nazis outlawed socialism, and executed socialists and communists en masse, even before they started rounding up Jews. In 1933, the Dachau concentration camp held socialists and leftists exclusively. The Nazis arrested more than 11,000 Germans for “illegal socialist activity” in 1936.

    • Everyone here is complaining about Biden’s too little to late, including me.
No one is calling all Republicans pro-Russian, but only a small faction that happened to have delivered
      the speaker of the House.

You are talking out of your ass and victimising the Republicans while there is no reason to.
