Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for his indecisiveness. He emphasized that during the war in Ukraine, the world needs heads of state who act more confidently, writes Spiegel .

“We need a much more decisive German government. Chancellor Scholz is too slow, too indecisive. He doesn’t look like a leader,” Rasmussen said.

He also said that he does not understand why Germany still does not supply Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. The Danish politician believes that European countries should switch to a war economy and provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons.

“We must finally understand the seriousness of the situation. Putin will not back down, especially before the US elections,” Rasmussen said.

In addition, the former secretary general of the alliance noted that Ukraine should be invited to join NATO as soon as possible.

“I don’t know whether this will happen at the NATO summit in July. But I would like to counter the argument that it is impossible to begin the accession process while there is a war in Ukraine,” he added.

According to him, Putin will not stop until Ukraine becomes a NATO member, so the West must “break this circle.”

It is known that Rasmussen was previously Prime Minister of Denmark, after which he became co-chairman of the International Working Group on Security and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.

  1. Sadly, true, and the view of many Germans, too, among which Scholz has dropped enormously in popularity ratings. The Chancellor seems to think to take the lead is dangerous and it’s much safer to hide behind others, most prominently Biden. But that’s not a reasonable mindset for a guy who leads the government of a nation. ☹

  2. Pistorius had to make an embarassing announcement:
“Pistorius Reveals Causes For Leakage Of German Generals’ Conversation”
“One of the conversation participants used the hotel’s mobile network or Wi-Fi.”

A prominent general of the Bundeswehr, as clueless about basic knowledge regarding cyber security as a seven-year-old (though this may be unfair to modern kids)! Pistorius has a lot of work to do there, obviously. To implement secure systems is one thing of importance, but that’s not much use when users act as stupidly careless as that general. Such ignorance can’t be tolerated at all and those who can’t learn have to be kept as far away from security relevant informations as possible. I expect many cases of early retirements. ☹

  3. No wonder most of the other major players in Nato refuse to trust sensitive intelligence information to Germany. This German general is either an idiot or is a Russian informant or more likely both!

There is plenty of evidence that although Scholz and Germany have sent major military support (outside of Taurus!) on many levels they are not really capable or serious about defeating Russia. The long term costs of Germany and the vast majority of Nato not taking their own security seriously and free loading on the US for decades continues unabated.
