According to the Prime Minister of Greenland, the island is not for sale.

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Friedrich Nielsen said comments from US President Donald Trump’s administration about the island were disrespectful. He stressed that “Greenland is not for sale,” despite all the American leader’s attempts to gain control over it, Fox News reports .

“Greenland will never, ever be a piece of property that can be bought by anyone,” Nielsen said during a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

The Greenlandic Prime Minister added that the talks with American officials were not respectful. He stressed that in this situation, the Danish and Greenlandic authorities need to unite.

Nielsen also shared that Denmark has expressed a desire to invest in Greenlandic society. He believes this is due not only to historical reasons, but also to the fact that the island is part of the Danish commonwealth.

In addition, Frederiksen added that she would not mind meeting Trump in person.

“We always want to meet with the American president. Of course we want to. But I think we have very, very clearly marked the approach to all parts of the Kingdom of Denmark,” she said.
