The statement notes that the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany highly appreciated the call by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to end the war through diplomatic negotiations

On Sunday, June 7, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss possible ways to intensify diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine and the role of Europe in this process, the Ukrainian president said in a statement on Telegram.
In particular, Zelenskyy thanked Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz for their support.
He noted that it has always been a priority for Ukraine for Europe’s position and voice in the negotiations to be strong.
The joint statement of the leaders published on the website of the President of Ukraine also indicates that the politicians discussed the conditions that must be created to achieve a just and lasting peace, namely:
- Cessation of hostilities. They called on President Putin to agree to an immediate and complete ceasefire.
- The current line of contact should be the starting point for negotiations. International borders cannot be changed by force, and Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose its own security mechanisms and alliances must be fully respected.
- Ukraine must receive credible and legally binding security guarantees once the ceasefire takes effect, building on the commitments made in Berlin in December 2025 and in Paris in January 2026. It is specified that this includes the deployment of the Multinational Force for Ukraine.
- Russian assets will remain frozen until Russia ends its aggressive war and compensates Ukraine for the damages caused by the war.
- Any agreement must protect European security interests. Elements of any negotiations involving the EU and NATO will require the agreement of the EU and its member states, as well as NATO allies, respectively.
The statement notes that the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany highly appreciated the call by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to end the war through diplomatic negotiations, as set out in his letter to the President of the Russian Federation dated June 4, 2026.
“They supported the proposal to establish a direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia – with the active participation of the United States and Europe – with the aim of achieving a ceasefire and facilitating further negotiations. They confirmed that they will continue to strongly support Ukraine,” the report said.
Other statements by Zelensky
UNIAN previously reported that, according to the President of Ukraine, he decided to write a letter to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin because he did not know whether he would read it. Zelensky added that the open letter means that he has to answer a question that is also important for his society, which “lives in some fantastic world where no one is attacked, where this is not an aggressive war.”
The Ukrainian leader added that he wanted to “openly tell where we are.” As Zelensky emphasized, Putin is now “not so loud” about the war because of Moscow’s losses on the battlefield.
We also wrote that Zelenskyy declared his readiness to freeze the front lines where they are now, if this would help stop the war. In his opinion, this is the fastest way. At the same time, he noted that freezing is not the ultimate goal.
The President of Ukraine explained that the idea is to “freeze and translate it into a diplomatic position.” When asked whether this does not mean in fact capitulation and handing over to Russia what it is seeking, the President rejected this assumption.

Negotiations may be necessary but they will never work. pootin, with his KGB training, believes things like honor, truth, international laws and contracts are signs of weakness and would break them with joy.
No mention of any kidnapped children being returned. That should be high on the list.
The five points to are really weak. Why after four years should Ukrainians accept such proposals.
