US President Donald Trump is pursuing a policy of ending the war in Ukraine that is aimed at reaching a negotiated agreement, but it is unlikely to work, said Congressman Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska, in an interview with CBS News .

“I don’t think it’s working. He’s trying too hard to be a referee, trying to work with two different people in a boxing match, but that’s not the case. There’s a country that invaded Ukraine, that’s bombing cities every night. There’s a fight between good and evil, and America has to, you know, unconditionally support the right side, democracy, a country that wants free markets, a country that wants to be on our side,” said the politician, who served 29 years in the US Air Force, commanding wings at Ramstein (Germany) and Offutt (Nebraska).

According to him, Russia hates the United States and he doesn’t understand why Trump doesn’t see it. Bacon emphasized that Putin doesn’t like America and hates what it stands for.

“So that’s the problem when it comes to the House of Representatives: the speaker didn’t want him, didn’t want to oppose the president on this issue, and so he lobbied pretty hard, and we call it campaigning against this vote. I think he was wrong. I’ve waited a year and a half in this Congress to do something about Ukraine, and we’ve done nothing. There have been no votes, no policy decisions from the leadership here or from the president to support a country that’s fighting for its life,” the Republican stressed.

The politician added that Ukraine currently has the advantage, but the Russian Federation is shelling its cities every night, so the US should be there to help the country defend itself from these attacks.

Bacon also noted that he supports the production of missiles for Patriot systems in Europe, which was previously proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We cannot currently produce enough Patriot missiles to meet the needs of our actions against Iran and Ukraine. In addition, we need the same missile defense capabilities in Asia – whether against North Korea or China – and we do not produce them in sufficient quantities, so we should turn to our allies for help in creating additional production lines. I know that Ukraine would be happy to help with this, and it really needs these missiles.

What I would do in this case, given that we are low on supplies due to Iran, I would sit down at the negotiating table with our allies, just look at what resources we have and develop a plan to provide Ukraine with missile defense technology and capabilities. We cannot do everything on our own, but we must sit down at the negotiating table with our allies, develop a plan and implement it,” he concluded.

Trump’s policies – latest news

As UNIAN reported, Trump is slowing down the drone deal with Ukraine . In particular, Michael O’Hanlon of the Brookings Institution admitted that his situation is simply “puzzling,” since the US has already sent its own teams to Ukraine to learn on the spot.

“Perhaps there is some procedural problem – or internal White House politics are playing a role, given that Trump remains unpredictable in his commitment to the Ukrainian cause,” he noted.

At the same time, The Guardian sharply criticized Trump’s approach to wars in the world. According to the columnist of the publication, Trump’s diplomatic experience leaves much to be desired. He promised to resolve the war in Ukraine in one day, but it has been going on for five years.

  1. Rep. Bacon has it right again, but Zelensky has to deal with a US president that likes his ass kissed and Zelensky doesn’t play like that. As I said before, no matter what Trump will be known for, his failure to adequately support Ukraine will be foremost.

    • I agree Bacon has become a real and wonderful voice for Ukraine, among others. No less coming out of Nebraska. Can’t imagine too many Ukrainians living in Nebraska. Wow, who knows maybe we found a politician with a brain and love of what was America’s values. As for Trump, history will his judge.

  2. Ukraine is still two and a half years away from even the possibility of getting a president who will help them.
If Krasnov steps down before that, then VanZkov will make even that complete oaf look like a genius.
