A US diplomat noted during a visit to Minsk that relations between Belarus and the US are currently good, but not perfect. So work is beginning on opening an embassy.
The United States wants to return the embassy to Minsk . This was stated by the Deputy Special Representative of the US President for Ukraine, John Cole, following a meeting with the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA reports .
“The goal of our interaction is the normalization of bilateral relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United States. One of the main goals is to do everything possible to ensure that economic and political interaction between our countries expands and strengthens,” Cole said.
The diplomat also noted that relations between Belarus and the United States are currently good, but not excellent.
“We want to return our embassy to Minsk. We want economic relations and trade to develop between our countries. If there are any disagreements and contradictions between our countries, let them remain somewhere below, they should not be brought to the surface. We are ready, and President Trump is ready, to do everything to completely normalize our relations,” he said.
Regarding the return of the US embassy to Minsk, Cole did not name specific dates, noting that this is still within the scope of the negotiation process.
“We want to have an ambassador, we want to have a full embassy here. And we will work on that,” he added.
