The Russian-Arab summit was postponed due to a lack of confirmation from Arab leaders, with only a few leaders confirming their participation.

Thus, it is noted that the Kremlin viewed the summit, which was to take place on October 15, as one of the most important foreign policy initiatives of the year, designed to show Western leaders, and primarily US President Donald Trump, that Russia has support and influence in the Arab world, the source said.
The publication writes that Russia has been preparing for the summit since the spring, when Russian dictator Vladimir Putin first announced it. The Kremlin invited 22 heads of Arab states to the forum, which was to be held under the slogan “Cooperation for Peace, Stability and Security.”
On Thursday, the Kremlin announced the cancellation of the summit, linking it to the start of the settlement in Gaza under Trump’s plan.
According to the source, despite the disappointment over the event’s failure, the Kremlin is confident that the summit will eventually take place, perhaps later.
“There simply weren’t enough Arab leaders to say ‘yes’ to justify holding the summit. That’s what forced Russian President Vladimir Putin to postpone at the last minute an event he had hoped would strengthen his position in the region,” the publication writes.
On Friday, October 10, Putin said that the postponement was his initiative: “I did it because I don’t want to interfere in the process, which we hope is now underway.”
“Putin wanted to show everyone that he is the leader of the ‘global majority,’ but what is this majority without the Arab world?” noted political scientist Andrey Kolesnikov.
The publication notes that Putin “would like to be there (in the Middle East – ed.) as big a player as the Soviet Union once was, but he lacks the resources,” Kolesnikov stated. Even the republics of the former USSR, whose leaders gathered this week at a summit in Dushanbe, are pursuing a multi-vector policy.
