The Russian occupation army is trying to drive the Defense Forces out of Pokrovsk (Donetsk Oblast), but is suffering losses on the approaches. Ukrainian units continue to control the northern part of the city, thwarting the occupiers’ plans to surround Myrnograd .
This was stated by the chief of staff of the artillery reconnaissance division of the separate artillery brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Igor Yaremenko. According to the military man, the Ukrainian defenders are holding back the offensive as much as possible and destroying the Russians on the approaches to the settlements.
Yaremenko noted that such actions of the occupiers are connected with previously set tasks of the Russian leadership. At the same time, the Defense Forces act in accordance with their own plans, which are not disclosed in advance. He also recalled the successful operation in the Kupyansk direction and expressed hope for a positive result in the current situation.
“They are trying to knock our forces out of the city of Pokrovsk, since Putin has long set the task, but our Defense Forces control the northern part of Pokrovsk, preventing them from encircling Mirnograd, and we are stopping and destroying the enemy on the approaches as much as possible. We all understand perfectly well that there are certain plans, certain intentions, but no one will disclose them ahead of time,” the military officer said.
The situation in Pokrovsk and Myrnograd
The 7th Corps of the Ukrainian Defense Forces reported that as of December 28, the Defense Forces control the northern part of Pokrovsk, and the enemy’s attempts to break through the defenses north of the railway remain unsuccessful. Because of this, Russian troops have intensified operations in the west of the city with the aim of reaching the Grishino area, but their attacks are being blocked.
The situation in Myrnograd was described as difficult by the corps. Units of the Airborne Assault Forces and Marine Corps have been involved in the defense, reinforcing the grouping to contain pressure from the northeastern and southern directions.
Despite the fierce fighting, the Russian side is spreading claims of the alleged complete occupation of Myrnograd, supporting them with propaganda videos from the southern outskirts of the city. The 7th Corps of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry noted that such actions are aimed primarily at the enemy’s internal audience.
The General Staff also denied information about the complete capture of Pokrovsk, Myrnograd, and a number of other cities . They noted that the Russian Federation’s statements about their capture are not confirmed by facts .
As OBOZ.UA reported, the situation in the Pokrovsky direction remains one of the most difficult on the front, but Ukrainian forces are accumulating units for local assault operations to reduce enemy maneuvers. At the same time, combat work is significantly complicated by weather conditions, in particular constant fog.
Ukrainian drones also continue to reduce the number of the occupying Russian army. In particular, they are effectively destroying the invaders in Pokrovsk. Fighters of the 425th separate assault regiment “Skelya” showed a dynamic video of the liquidation of 13 Russian occupiers.
