Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the issue of diesel fuel supplies to the United States should be discussed directly with Ukraine, not with russia. The head of state made this statement on Monday, October 12, during his address to participants at the Warsaw Security Forum.
Commenting on the potential volume of russian diesel exports (ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 metric tons per month, compared to global consumption of 120 million metric tons per month), the President noted that such volumes do not significantly affect global prices.
“What impact could this have? I don’t think it has any. If anyone thinks it does, so be it,” – he said.
Instead, Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed an alternative partnership option to the United States—to conclude a direct agreement on fuel.
“If such actions are being taken, then why doesn’t America strike a ‘diesel deal’ with Ukraine? Let Ukraine propose a ‘diesel deal.’ After all, we have the power to decide whether these ships sail or not. Whether these refineries operate or not. If that’s the case, then let’s do it… So yes, let’s sign a corresponding ‘diesel deal’ with the President of the United States of America,” – Zelenskyy said.
Separately, the President emphasized the importance of a stable electricity supply for Ukraine. According to him, if reliable protection of the Ukrainian power grid is guaranteed, Ukraine will refrain from striking russia’s diesel infrastructure.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 11, US President Donald Trump announced that an energy truce was taking effect between Ukraine and the aggressor country, russia.
