Ukraine is signing agreements on defense cooperation in the Drone Deal format with other countries during the NATO summit in Ankara . Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this following meetings with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Ettjens and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal in Ankara.
Agreement with the Netherlands
As Zelensky reported, the document provides for cooperation in the field of security, defense industry, military expertise, cybersecurity, technology, research and development, and exchange of experience.
At the same time, the Dutch government has pledged to provide military support to Ukraine in the amount of 9 billion euros until 2029 inclusive.
“We are very glad that our teams have prepared a Drone Deal between our countries. And, of course, this will help with exports, and it will help with joint production, exchange of ideas and exchange of experience that we have,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
Agreement with Estonia
The relevant agreement provides for the development of the defense-industrial complex, technological cooperation, and the exchange of experience and intelligence.
Thus, Ukraine and Estonia will develop joint military production and launch new production on the territory of both countries. In particular, this concerns the production of air defense systems, drones, sensor systems and early warning systems, ammunition, combat control systems, and naval capabilities.
“This agreement is not only a path to faster cooperation between our countries. It is a step and a signal of trust, because we are concluding such an agreement with a very close friend, and this is of great importance. Of course, we are also always grateful for your strong support – military and humanitarian – as well as for your steps aimed at continuous support for Ukraine on our path to the EU and NATO,” Zelenskyy said.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Estonia noted that the Drone Deal is an important document that strengthens the partnership between the countries.
“Cooperation at such an industrial level is very important to us, because you are the best in this field, and we strive to cooperate,” Michal noted.
Plans to conclude such agreements with other countries
As Zelensky reported following a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Jay Carney, special attention was paid to preparing an agreement in the Drone Deal format between Canada and Ukraine. Work on the Drone Deal is also underway with Norway.
As UNIAN reported , in March, Ukraine began signing drone agreements with Middle Eastern countries for a ten-year period. The first countries with which such agreements were signed were: Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. It provided for the production of weapons and the exchange of scarce means, as well as the provision of Ukraine with diesel fuel.
According to The Hill, the administration of US President Donald Trump has been delaying the signing of a large-scale drone deal with Ukraine for months, although it is the American military that is lagging behind in this area and is trying to catch up.
