President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky named the Ada -class corvette of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after Hetman Ivan Vygovsky.
“To assign the name of Hetman Ivan Vygovsky to the “Ada” class corvette of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and in the future call this corvette the “Hetman Ivan Vygovsky” corvette,” says Presidential Decree No. 150/2024 .
It is noted that this is being done with the aim of restoring the historical traditions of the national army and perpetuating the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian military, political and statesman Hetman of the Zaporozhye Army.
The President looked at the construction of this corvette during a visit to the shipyard in Istanbul, where he is visiting. He also thanked the defense companies of Turkey and Ukraine who are working to return peace.

What is known about the Ada class corvettes:
The contract with Turkey for the construction of two corvettes was concluded in the fall of 2021. A year later , the first corvette was launched , which received the name “Hetman Ivan Mazepa”.
The keel of “Hetman Ivan Vygovsky” was laid in the summer. It is known that the corvette will be armed with the MICA VL anti-aircraft missile system, 76 and 35 mm cannons, anti-ship cruise missiles (8 launchers) and Murene 90 Impact torpedoes.

Together with the two minehunters the UK donated, they are a fleet in internment. That’s frustrating, but at least those ships are safe from Russian missiles. 🙁
