The general’s objection was reportedly that there was no “second step” after breaking through the Russian border.

Some of Ukraine’s top military commanders objected to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in Russia’s Kursk region, POLITICO reported , citing two senior Ukrainian military officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

It is noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky first raised the issue of an offensive in the Russian Federation at the beginning of the year and insisted on it.

Among those who spoke out against it, the publication cites former commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny. It is reported that his objection to the Kursk operation was the lack of a “second step” after breaking through the Russian border. According to one of the officials, Zaluzhny did not receive a clear answer from Zelensky on this matter and considered the operation an adventure.Video of the day

In addition to the former commander, the commander of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, Emil Ishkulov, who was dismissed in July, also spoke out against the Kursk operation, the publication writes. Sources said that “Ishkulov objected to the operation in the Kursk region, fearing that his brigade could ultimately be too vulnerable on Russian territory and that the number of losses could increase sharply.”

It is noted that Zaluzhny’s question about the “second step” after breaking through the Russian border remains key, since “both Western and Ukrainian skeptics fear that Kyiv’s forces could end up inside and suffer a demoralizing retreat.”
