Steinmeier added that when he raised the possibility of holding such a summit, “Xi Jinping’s face showed surprise.”

China is not interested in a trilateral summit involving Russia and the United States to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine .

As Steinmeier noted, although US President Donald Trump, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are likely to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, Xi Jinping’s reaction made it clear that the issue of Ukraine would not be on the agenda.

“There are no preparations for a summit on Ukraine involving the US, Russia and China. He (Xi Jinping – ed.) directly pointed out that this is a European conflict, in the settlement of which the Europeans themselves must participate,” the German president said.

Steinmeier added that when he raised the possibility of holding such a summit, “Xi Jinping’s face showed surprise.”

Thus, Steinmeier’s words refuted media reports about possible negotiations between China, Russia, and the United States regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
