Putin receives invitations to high-level meetings and concessions from the US.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin conducted a flurry of diplomatic activity in Moscow last week, underscoring how, nearly five years after launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he is thwarting Western attempts to isolate him and forcibly returning to world politics, The New York Times reports .

It is noted that Putin is receiving invitations to high-level meetings and concessions from the United States, even despite the escalation of the war and the lack of intention to compromise. Moreover, the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of lifting sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

“I think the Kremlin is really celebrating right now. Regardless of what they do or don’t do, they are getting something they didn’t even expect,” Stefan Meister, a Russia analyst at the German Council on Foreign Relations, told reporters.

The publication recalled that Putin is due to visit China in November for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, where a possible trilateral meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Trump would put Russia on an equal footing with the world’s two superpowers. He could then head to Miami in December for the G20 summit, if he accepts Trump’s invitation.
