America’s stance on Russian land grabs just changed overnight. For years, the US position was clear: forced “referendums” at gunpoint would never be recognized.
Then Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, shocked the diplomatic world by repeating Kremlin talking points about Ukraine’s occupied territories. “They’re Russian-speaking… There have been referendums where the overwhelming majority of people indicated they want to be under Russian rule.”
This isn’t just about Ukraine. It’s a fundamental shift in how America views sovereignty worldwide. When a US official legitimizes the “referendum” method of conquest, the implications extend far beyond one conflict.
As our analysis shows, this matches exactly with Putin strategist Vladislav Surkov’s vision: “Russia’s natural state is a great power that expands and gathers lands.” If Moscow receives American blessing for its current conquests, what stops it from targeting the Baltics, Kazakhstan, or other former Soviet states next?
History teaches us that appeasement only fuels further aggression. Each Western retreat has led to Russian advance. Witkoff’s words didn’t happen in a vacuum – just days ago, Surkov bluntly declared Russia “will expand in all directions.”
This matters because the entire post-WWII international order was built on rejecting conquest as a legitimate means of acquiring territory. If we abandon this principle now, we create a new playbook for authoritarian regimes worldwide.

The US can recognise or repeat any russian propaganda they want. At the end of the day Ukraine will never give up, or recognise any russian land grab, especially giving up territory they control.
I fear that is where we are headed :
Trumputler offers a “deal”; based on the current ridiculous claims of putler, Zel rejects it, trumpkov does another tantrum, drops ALL support to Ukraine and moves on with his Canada/Greenland/Panama project, leaving feckless Europe to take up the slack.
Worse : it can’t be ruled out that trumpkov actively sides with putler.
The plan to put US troops in Orbanistan is for what purpose exactly? An attack on Ukraine even can’t be ruled out.
Unfortunately, we have four more years of this bullshit.

No matter what this convicted felon recognizes or not, any president on down the road can reverse it again.
