This is the core misunderstanding of the Trump team. External pressure on Zelensky does not weaken him inside Ukraine. It does the opposite. Every public attack, every attempt to humiliate or corner him, instantly converts into higher domestic support.

When Zelensky is attacked in the Oval Office or publicly lectured by foreign politicians, the average Ukrainian does not think about Zelensky’s mistakes. They feel a personal insult. It is perceived not as criticism of a politician, but as pressure on the country itself. In a society living under constant missile attacks, that reaction is emotional, fast, and very predictable.

If Ukraine is pushed into elections under pressure, Zelensky would most likely win. Not because Ukrainians are blind fans of him. Many are not. In genuinely calm, free elections without war and without coercion, a significant share of voters might choose someone else. But forced elections are a completely different story. They trigger defiance, not competition.

Ukrainians have a very strong sense of political ownership. They believe only they have the right to decide when their president stays or goes. History burned this lesson in deeply. When a president lost legitimacy, Ukrainians removed him themselves. Yanukovych is the textbook example. No foreign government did that. Ukrainian society did.

That is why external pressure backfires so badly. It does not delegitimize the leader. It delegitimizes the pressure. The response is not debate, but resistance. The political message becomes simple and emotional. You do not tell us what to do. No matter who you are.

Recent public-opinion polls show that only a small minority of Ukrainians want to hold national elections β€œnow,” during active wartime. According to the most recent survey data from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted in September 2025:

β€’ Around 12 % support holding elections right now, before a ceasefire or peace agreement. New Voice of Ukraine
β€’ About 22 % would be open to elections after a ceasefire with security guarantees, but still before the final end of the war. Π£ΠΊΡ€Ρ–Π½Ρ„ΠΎΡ€ΠΌ
β€’ A clear majority (around 63 %) think elections should take place only after the war ends and peace is secured.

This is not about Zelensky as a person. It is about sovereignty, dignity, and agency. Push harder, and the reaction will be even stronger. Not loyalty to Zelensky, but a collective middle finger to anyone who tries to decide Ukraine’s internal politics from the outside.

And Zelensky cannot accept the plan Trump offers. Because it’s monstrously unfair, and accepting it would backfire on him, he will lose legitimacy and won’t last long. Because the opinion of people really matters.

Perhaps those who want elections during a war are looking for a pro-Russian as a leader, which Zelensky is not.

Putin and Trump don’t respect fair elections during peacetime, never mind during a war.

Howard Rogers

Why in god’s name aren’t these leaders–Trump, EU & EU NATO leaders–putting pressure on Putin? Putin is the aggressor. Putin is the killer and murderer. Putin is the rapist and the kidnapper. Putin is the violater of soveriegn borders. Putin is violater of the global order of law. And these leaders are putting pressure on the victim to give up land, agree to restrictions on the size of their military, and demanding they never join the EU or NATO. WTF?!!?? Have the so called “freedom-loving” leaders of the world lost their minds?

The American people support Ukraine and Zelensky and respect the incredible courage and dignity shown by Ukrainians.

Read the comments under this video interview with Trump to understand what the Ukrainians want. “What the Ukrainians want: early elections in America.” “Trump’s impeachment.” “Tell this ‘story’ to your friend putler, we in Ukraine will decide for ourselves what to do and when.” “Trump, you’re wrong. Russia hasn’t had elections for years. Ever.” “Nobody wants elections. Why should the president of a foreign country dictate when to call elections?” “Elections during wartime are not possible. When the war is over, we will decide for ourselves in our country.”

Trump is on the wrong side of this issue. Russia invaded Ukraine. Why is there no pressure on Putin to withdraw his troops and end this illegal invasion? When you look at leadership, Zelensky stands head and shoulders above both Putin and Trump. Given the option to leave, there is no doubt in my mind that both Putin and Trump would have taken the offer.

Trump’s power will be relinquished at some point, indeed there appears to be a bit of a revolt in the GOP, hopefully it will gain momentum. Furthermore, he doesn’t have an ‘administration’ he has a group of acolytes… history will not look favourably on Trump’s time in office…

Important remarks from Mr. T. Carlson about Russia increasingly resemble an ostrich’s musings on quantum tunneling.

Moskovites have easily loaded into Carlson’s skull a set of kokoshniks, vodka, bast shoes, and other attributes that supposedly grant the Russian Federation the right to world domination.

As a result of this operation, the American TV personality has become an authoritative expert and preacher of the β€œRussian world”. People believe him. They are seriously discussing the idea of bringing Russia β€œout of isolation back into the global economy” and other nonsense that is deadly for the civilized world.

They want to hand a new set of knives, saws and axes to a maniac obsessed with killing and dismemberment. This decision is, to put it mildly, reckless. And extremely dangerous for everyone.

It is driven solely by an absolute lack of real knowledge about Russia. About its barbarism. And its cannibalism as the main and only mode of existence of this country.

As always, the root of the problem is total ignorance among these β€œexperts”. With the efforts of such ostriches as Carlson, catastrophe is guaranteed. Right now is a good moment. The Russian economy, riddled with the wounds of war, is collapsing. It could finally be buried once and for all. And Russia was dismantled and neutralized.

But the ostriches dream of β€œgiving a chance” to a cannibalistic state so it can continue occupying, repressing, and committing genocide.

Calling for russia’s return to β€œnormal” while it’s busy destroying a neighbor shows how little he understands about the regime he defends.

Paul Wernert

It’s strange that the Americans, in particular, have short memories and have forgotten that Europe, particularly through Angela Merkel, tried to have a “normal” relationship with Russia, read Putin. Ultimately, it led nowhere, or rather, it went from bad to worse.

  1. Some good comments to Volodymyr’s posts.

    I like this one particularly:

  2. β€œIf Ukraine is pushed into elections under pressure, Zelensky would most likely win.”

In free and fair conditions, yes.
But you can bet that putler, likely with collusion from his enabler, has a plan to skank some putinoid scum into power.

  3. The video of Zelensky in Kupiansk yesterday was a huge middle finger to both TACO and his handler in the kremlin. You would need to be a special kind of stupid to think Ukraine would contemplate giving up land willingly.
