So much talks about money. How much rare minerals Ukraine should give. How much EU should put in defense. So, our lives have the price tag. While you are discussing money, Ukrainians are paying the real currency of war: blood and tears.

When Trump says β€œUkraine may become part of Russia”, he omits that it does not mean changing flag and paying taxes to different government. It means killing and putting millions of most ethnic-conscious Ukrainians to prison. Then, after the cleansing is done, brainwashing will come to work. And in 10 years, you’ll see young Ukrainians in Russian army coming to EU. More blood and tears will flow.

It happened in 20th century. Ukrainians were one of the most suffered nations. 10 million killed by Holodomor in 1933, 16% of population lost in WW2… No one in Europe suffered that proportion of losses in 20th century. And no genocide was ignored as much as Holodomor. We do not want it again.

But Trump is not talking about us as humans. As if we are assets that could be his or someone else’s.

All those talks about corruption in Ukraine… Yes we have it. Like everyone has. How do you explain former Chancellor of Germany, former Prime Minister of France, former Minister of External Relations of Austria working for Russia? Is that corruption or not yet?  And yes, we have Russian agents working here, like you have too. I am sure you may find someone Russia-financed even in Congress. According to Corruption Perception Index, we are less corrupted that Turkey or Brasil, about world average, not cosmic high as some may think.

But again, people are dying. And not because we have corruption, but because we are invaded by a mad-dog country 3.5 times bigger by population and 10 times bigger by economy. You could be at our place, it’s just our bad luck. Corruption may worsen things, but it’s not the root cause. I am also curious which of β€œcorruption clean” countries would sacrifice dozens thousands of lives as we do. Something tells me that β€œclean” Germany (without US bases) could be easier prey than Ukraine. So using β€œcorruption” excuse for not helping is like police not coming to the victim of murder because he has a bad credit history. We have dirty politics like everywhere. We have traitors and Russian collaborators (like anywhere). But It’s not an excuse to let Russia slaughter millions of people again.

What I learned from this war is that our lives are cheap for so many people. As if we are not people at all.

You described the current situation very clearly and with facts, which is important. Thank you
But I will add that there has never been such corruption in Ukraine as there is now. There has never been such a violation of the law and the Constitution. The country is run by people who know neither laws nor diplomacy. Or maybe this is on purpose? And it is a pity that in three years of a large-scale invasion they have not learned anything. The authorities are asking the US for bipartisan support, while they themselves are persecuting the opposition in Ukraine. The largest donor to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, in violation of the laws of Ukraine, is deprived of the opportunity to further assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A unity government has not been formed. Mobilization has failed. The country is not put on military rails. How can we win?

Reply from Volodymyr Kukharenko

Roman Gartnyk : Yes, dirty games are being played against Poroshenko and other political opponents, but “there has never been such corruption in Ukraine as there is now” is an overstretched statement. Yanukovich times were way worse, they could come and just “buy” business for 20% of the price and give you no other choice. There is nothing like that now. I am not a fan of Zelensky and his team and will vote for a different candidate (unless the alternative is pro-Russian one like Boiko), but I do not see how you may hold the election in trenches and under the threat of Ruzzian rockets that may fall anywhere.

As for “failed” and “put on military rails”… How do we manage to still hold Russia then? How do you imagine those “military rails”? I agree that it could have been done much better, but it requires management skills and system improvement that does not happen overnight. We have what we have, as one of our President said, and have to move on with it.

Volodymyr Kukharenko : About the Unity Government, this is not about elections. About elections, this is when we talk about the Verkhovna Rada or the President. Instead, there is a war going on and elections are impossible. This is clear to everyone. I meant the Unity Government formed by the Verkhovna Rada and the President. This Government should include professional crisis managers from all political, and most importantly, pro-Ukrainian parties. And we have the fact that, for example, in the President’s office, there are advisers who slept through the attack. What did they advise the President? The heads of intelligence, who told the President that there would be no attack, went for a promotion.
Corruption is in the blood, I meant that. And it is going off the charts.
You can write a lot, but we all need to demand from the authorities the creation of a unity government and salvation. The authorities should stop persecuting the opposition, and unite with it around the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Someone said in Monte Carlo, all the big spenders are Ukrainians. Zelensky has a Ferrari and a 8 million euro villa in the alps, as do many of his accomplices. Yes it is rife with corruption.
