The Russian dictator said the most important thing now is to “eliminate the causes of the crisis” in Ukraine.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin said he is ready for dialogue with the new administration of the United States of America and congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on taking office. He said this on January 20 at a meeting of the Russian Security Council.

“We see the statements of the US President-elect and members of his team and the desire to resume direct contacts with Russia, which were suspended through no fault of ours…

We also hear his statements about the need to do everything to prevent a third world war. We welcome this attitude and congratulate the US President-elect on taking office,” Putin said.

He stressed that Moscow “has never refused dialogue and has always been ready to maintain smooth and cooperative relations with any American administration.”

“We are open to dialogue with the new US administration on the Ukrainian conflict. The most important thing here is to eliminate the causes of the crisis. As for the settlement of the situation itself, its goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for regrouping forces and weapons with the aim of continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations living in this region,” the dictator said.

And he assured that Russia will fight for its interests.

“This is the purpose and meaning of conducting the SVO,” he added.
