UAV strikes on oil refineries on Russian territory negatively affect not only the economy of the aggressor state, but also the invaders at the front in Ukraine. In particular, Russian tanks may receive less fuel, and the funds provided for in the Russian budget for the army and defense industry simply do not reach there.

Military expert Vladislav Seleznev said this in a commentary to OBOZ.UA. According to him, the results of the combat work of Ukrainian drones are tangible for the Russian Federation and its occupation army.

“Russia is already losing at least 10% of the production of various types of fuel. This means that Russian tanks receive somewhat less of the same fuel. And against the backdrop of the fact that spring field work is now continuing, and, of course, residents of the Russian Federation need a considerable amount of fuel, this already creates a certain tension,” the expert said.

If attacks on refineries continue, the Russian budget will lose money. The enemy army will also lose.

“The total amount of the Russian budget is approximately $320 billion per year. Of this, the Russian Federation allocates $120 billion to support the activities of its own army, including that part that is involved in the so-called SVO, and, accordingly, the work of the military-industrial complex. Therefore, if less money will flow into the general budget, and it is likely that some of this money will not reach the Russian defense industry or the Russian army, and this is really great news,” Seleznev believes.

According to him, in recent years the Russians have tried to create single, but very large-scale oil refineries in terms of production volumes. For example, the Tuapse oil refinery, located on the Caucasian coast of the Black Sea, where a large-scale “arrival” recently occurred, produced many types of fuel for both aircraft and armored vehicles.

After the destruction of part of the production, as the expert noted, the enemy began to lose resource capabilities and was forced to introduce limits on the use of certain types of fuel in combat units performing tasks within the framework of so-called special military operations.

“Yes, there are still many other oil refineries on the territory of Russia, but the destruction of certain elements of this production creates an additional logistical burden. Fuel must be transported, for example, not 100 kilometers from key consumers, but one and a half thousand. This creates a load on the railway infrastructure, creates a certain delay in the delivery of one or another type of petroleum products. In addition, not only refineries are destroyed, but also loading stations and corresponding modules that ensure the import of products. Therefore, it is not for nothing that the Russian government contracts certain reserves of petroleum products both in neighboring Belarus and in other countries neighboring Kazakhstan,” Seleznev said.

As OBOZ.UA reported, on the night of May 1, explosions were heard at the Ryazan oil refinery. Another energy enterprise of the aggressor state was attacked by drones; after hitting the refinery, a powerful fire broke out : a primary oil refining unit was burning.
