It is not even possible that Orban will be tried to be promoted to the position of Secretary General, but there is already another candidate loyal to Russia.

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban could be offered a senior position at the United Nations, an initiative promoted by the pro-Trump MAGA movement in the United States to protect the pro-Russian politician from prosecution for corruption crimes at home.

According to the investigative journalism project Vsquare , several sources in diplomatic circles – both foreign and Hungarian – have reported on the possibility of such a scenario. The key element of such an option is not so much the specific position, but the level of protection it can provide Orbán. The authors emphasize that within the UN system, different levels of positions provide different amounts of immunity – from limited functional to virtually full diplomatic protection for the highest officials.

Journalists note that according to the 1946 UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities, only the highest officials of the organization have full diplomatic immunity. Their status is effectively equated to that of foreign ambassadors, which includes protection from criminal prosecution for themselves and their family members. Lower-level positions have only functional immunity – within the scope of their official duties.

According to Vsquare, among the potential supporters of such a scenario, in addition to the current US leadership, may be Argentine President Javier Milley, who supported Orban before the elections.

It is worth mentioning that preparations for the election of the new UN Secretary-General have already begun. So far, the main favorite is considered to be Argentine Rafael Grossi, who currently heads the IAEA.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the described scenario is at an early stage of discussion and may not be implemented.

Orban wants to flee Hungary

As UNIAN reported, in April, Viktor Orban announced that he was giving up his parliamentary mandate in the new convocation of parliament, explaining this by the fact that “now I am needed not in parliament, but in the reorganization of the national camp.”

At the same time, journalist Szabolcs Panyi, citing sources, already claimed that after resigning from the post of Prime Minister, Orban could go to the United States , where his relatives already live, and where he could supposedly count on political protection.
