This conclusion can be drawn from the statement of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. As he emphasized on Fox News, the potential connection of Russian banks to the international banking system SWIFT will depend on the actions of the Kremlin.

He also commented on the demands that Russia has put forward in the context of the ceasefire talks in Ukraine. According to him, they are “under consideration.”

“It depends on the further actions of the Russian leadership whether the sanctions will be strengthened or weakened. And President Trump, I think, will not hesitate to strengthen the sanctions if it gives him an advantage in negotiations,” Bessent explained.
