The politician’s team declined to comment on this.
The US Secret Service has stepped up security for Donald Trump in recent weeks as intelligence agencies received information that Iran was planning an assassination attempt on him.
According to CNN , citing sources, the threat was known before Saturday’s attack. There is no indication yet that it was connected to a conspiracy. “In response to the growing threat, the Secret Service dramatically increased resources and means to protect former President Trump. All of this was done on the eve of Saturday,” the official told reporters.
Secret Service agents have repeatedly warned Trump’s team against holding outdoor rallies, which pose greater risks than events to which they can better control access. But these are general guidelines.
Trump’s team said it does not comment on the politician’s security measures. The Federal Bureau of Investigation also declined to comment. At the same time, National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said there is no known connection between the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, and anyone else.
“Law enforcement officials have indicated that their investigation has found no links between the shooter and any co-conspirator or accomplice, foreign or domestic,” she said.
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN denies the existence of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. “These allegations are baseless and malicious. From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be held accountable and punished in the courts for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani. Iran has chosen the legal path to hold him accountable,” the mission spokesman said.

Looks like they fell down on the job the other day. Just what the hell was security like before they stepped it up?
It did say outdoor venues were I’ll advised, but it was just that, advisory. Still I agree that they failed on duty to secure some sections, and should have had more teams on rooftops.
The available venues to hold 100,000 people inside are rather limited, even in the USA. They really don’t have much choice but have the rallies outside.
