At the same time, Europe expresses concerns that without Ukraine’s full membership in NATO, such guarantees may not be reliable enough.
The United States is offering Ukraine security guarantees similar to those it would receive within NATO, but has made it clear that a deal must be agreed by Christmas or conditions could worsen, Politico reports .
“The basis of this agreement is really very strong guarantees, similar to Article 5… These guarantees will not last forever. They are being discussed right now, if a mutually acceptable agreement is reached,” a senior US official said.
It is noted that the United States expects Russia to approve such an agreement as part of the final agreement, and also to allow Ukraine to join the European Union.
“We believe that in the final agreement, Russia will accept all these conditions that will allow Ukraine to become a strong and free country. Russia has made it clear that it is not against Ukraine joining the EU,” said a second American official.

It is noted that the US will then convene working groups, likely in Miami this weekend, where military officials will carefully study maps to resolve remaining territorial issues.

The Washington Post reported that the US said it had offered Ukraine “platinum” security guarantees , which would require a vote in Congress, and that it believed it had resolved “90 percent” of the problems between Ukraine and Russia.

Security guarantees are useless. Surprised Zelensky is buying the bullshit.
I doubt he is buying anything. He just needs to appear to be cooperating with the kremlin asset.
After Budapest and Minsk, joining NATO and being a full member is the only pact that will offer true security. NATO should have done this back in 2014 and all of this would have been avoided. Instead, NATO gave Putler a veto.
I hope that Zelensky won’t fall for this utter bullshit. One knife in Ukraine’s back is enough (worthless Budapest Memorandum). Any guarantees from Taco are even more worthless.
