The United States of America will deploy a battery of the THAAD anti-missile system in Israel .

President Joe Biden has instructed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to send a THAAD battery and a crew of service members who know how to operate it to Israel, Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement .

Ryder said it would strengthen the country’s integrated air defense system:

“These actions underscore the United States’ unwavering commitment to the defense of Israel and to protecting Americans in Israel from any further ballistic missile attacks from Iran.”

THAAD system

The mobile ground-based anti-missile system is designed to intercept medium-range ballistic missiles. They are produced by the American company Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

The Pentagon noted that this is not the first time THAAD has been deployed in the Middle East – the last time was after a major attack by Hamas on October 7. Then it was necessary to protect the troops and interests of the United States of America in the region. And in 2019, the system was delivered to Israel for air defense exercises.
