The United States of America and the European Union are ready to consider new routes for gas supplies to Ukraine.
This is stated in the final statement of the meeting of the US-EU Energy Council.
“The Council expressed continued support for the study of new gas transit routes and capacities from the EU to Ukraine,” the statement said.
The Council also reaffirmed that Ukraine continues to be a key partner for both the EU and the US and expressed strong support for a strong and resilient Ukraine.

The Rada confirmed that Ukraine is a strategic gas transit country for the EU and should continue to promote Ukraine’s integration into the EU energy market in order to improve Ukraine’s energy security, accelerate its decarbonization and transition to clean energy, and expand its potential for clean energy exports.
The Council noted the importance of continuing to support the process of synchronizing the power grids of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with the Continental European grid.
The statement also notes that the Rada has committed itself to new efforts to invest in and support Ukraine’s decarbonization efforts and related infrastructure.
As UNIAN reported, the transit of natural gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) in January 2022 decreased by 57% compared to the same period last year, to 1.66 billion cubic meters.
