The High Commissioner stressed that such attacks are prohibited by international humanitarian law and constitute a war crime.

Russia’s strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4 was the largest killing of children in the entire war in Ukraine, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said in a statement released on Sunday, April 6.

It is noted that on April 5, a commission from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) arrived at the site of the strike, documented the damage, and identified the names of nine children killed. Information gathering is ongoing.

OHCHR documented damage caused by hundreds of shrapnel fragments to houses, children’s swings and slides, as well as to trees and the ground. Turk stated:

“This is the deadliest single strike against children that OHCHR has confirmed since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. It is an unimaginable horror – nine children were killed, most of them while playing in a park, as military weapons exploded above them. The explosion killed 18 people on a warm Friday evening in Kryvyi Rih, as families gathered near a playground, a restaurant and residential buildings.”

The Commissioner also stated that the Russian Federation’s use of weapons with a large area of effect to strike a densely populated area without any apparent military presence demonstrates “a reckless disregard for civilian life.”

Separately, Turk commented on the absurd version of the Russian authorities that the target was supposedly a group of Ukrainian soldiers. However, locals told the UN commission that a cosmetology forum was being held in the restaurant shortly before the attack. This event was announced on the Internet the day before. There were no soldiers nearby.

“Even if Russian authorities had information about the possible presence of military personnel, the manner and circumstances of the strike could constitute an indiscriminate attack,” the statement said.

OHCHR also recalled that such attacks are prohibited by international humanitarian law and constitute a war crime.

  1. “Russia’s strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4 was the largest killing of children in the entire war…”

Yet, there is silence from Trump. No words of condemnation, no words of condolence, and zero compassion. Trump is not my president.
America used to be great until the convicted felon entered the White House.

    • He couldnt even be bothered to turn up for the return of the 4 US servicemen that died in Lithuania. He is pure scum, and the politicians saying nothing about this disdain for US servicemen are just as guilty.

      • Yes, he also had zero compassion for those soldiers. He’s all around despicable.

  2. Trump is too busy with the funeral of the 4 soldiers killed in Lithuania………………..oh wait……..
