Ukraine has entered into an agreement with the United States of America to transfer 40 new locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia . According to an UNIAN correspondent, this was announced by US Special Representative for Economic Recovery of Ukraine Penny Pritzker during a joint briefing of Ukrzaliznytsia.

“Today we come to you with a very happy message regarding an agreement that will make it possible to supply 40 locomotives to Ukraine. We know what a big role the railway played in protecting Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” she said.

Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov noted that these locomotives are being issued to Ukraine on credit. “The peculiarity of this contract is that it is a commercial loan on peacetime terms. The amount is more than $150 million,” Kubrakov noted.

According to the head of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevgeny Lyashchenko, Ukrzaliznytsia currently has only 29 locomotives that are used in Ukraine every day.

“One of the locomotives was, unfortunately, destroyed in the city of Melitopol. But it worked and carried out transportation until the very end. Therefore, the additional 40 locomotives that are now being discussed are more than doubling the potential. This agreement opens up the last step for us to so that we complete negotiations with the manufacturer. And we have already reached the signing of an agreement with the manufacturer,” Lyashchenko said.

On March 28, it was reported that the new international night route “Prague – Chop” made its first flight. It was launched by Ukrzaliznytsia and the Czech private carrier RegioJet.

On April 5, it became known that in Ukraine, passenger trains, following the “women’s carriages”, will soon also have “family carriages” . For now, such cars will run only in domestic traffic.
