Marines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully landed on the left bank of the Kherson region and established themselves on the occupied borders. Currently, they continue to advance deep into the occupied territory.
This was stated by the Chief of Staff of the 34th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Alim Kerimov, in an interview with the project “Radio Liberty. Crimea.Realities”. He also explained how the tactics of Russian troops in the Kherson direction have changed.

According to Kerimov, Ukrainian marines are holding positions on the left bank of the Dnieper and in the island zone.
“We have a lot of positions on the left bank, to which rotations are carried out on a permanent basis. And we are advancing throughout this entire island zone and, in general, we will be, frankly, in some settlement on the left bank,” the military man said.
The colonel did not name the settlement where the Ukrainian military managed to gain a foothold, or specify how far they had advanced.

He noted that the Marines are not only holding the occupied lines, but also continuing to storm enemy positions.
“I would say that they simultaneously maintain the lines, positions where they are, and at the same time they advance, storm the enemy’s positions and, accordingly, advance deep into the enemy to the positions we have determined. That is, they rotated, established themselves on the left bank, advanced, established themselves, respectively, handed over the position, advanced further,” the brigade chief of staff explained.

How the tactics of Russian troops have changed
According to Kerimov, Russian troops have significantly reduced the number of assaults in the Kherson direction. If in 2025 the Ukrainian military recorded up to 700 such sorties, now they are about 150–200 per year.
The movement of Russian boats has also become less active. Last year, about 200 exits were recorded, while in the first six months of this year – only 22.

At the same time, the enemy is increasing the use of artillery, aviation, and FPV drones. Russian troops use drones not only to strike military positions, but also to attack the civilian population of the Kherson region.
In August alone, the 30th Marine Corps recorded over 26,000 drone strikes.
Kerimov attributes this change in tactics to the failed attempts of Russian troops to advance. According to him, the enemy is switching to a so-called “hybrid offensive”, focusing on remote strikes and terrorizing the civilian population.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that in the Kherson direction, Russian troops are trying to take advantage of the fog to cross the Dnieper and land on the islands at its mouth. To do this, the occupiers are sending small groups of two or three soldiers, who, however, suffer losses. A senior lieutenant of the Defense Forces of Ukraine with the call sign “Alex” explained that with such actions the enemy seeks to create additional problems for the Ukrainian defenders and force them to divert forces and resources to counter these attempts.
