Ukrainian strike drones reportedly targeted the Bashneft oil refinery complex in Ufa, Russia, on September 21, reaching a major Russian oil refining hub located roughly 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
On September 21, Ukrainian strike drones reportedly targeted the Bashneft oil refinery in Ufa, Russia, in response to Moscow’s attacks on Ukraine.
Exilenova+ reported that Ukrainian Defense Forces strike drones had reached Ufa, while Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, said the Bashneft refinery had been hit.
“Breaking news. Ufa. The Bashneft oil refinery has been hit,” Andriushchenko said.
The extent of the damage and other details surrounding the reported strike remain unclear.
Ufa is one of Russia’s major oil refining hubs, hosting three large facilities: Bashneft-UNPZ, Bashneft-Novoil, and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim. All three belong to the Bashneft group and together make up a major refining complex.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the facilities have a combined annual processing capacity of more than 23 million metric tons of crude oil and produce gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products.
The refineries are located roughly 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
The reported attack follows other recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian military and industrial facilities. Three production buildings at the Atlant Aero drone manufacturing plant in Taganrog, Russia, were destroyed in a Ukrainian Neptune missile strike, according to an assessment published by Exilenova+ on September 17.
The strike caused extensive damage to a warehouse reportedly used for military purposes. According to the assessment, the building suffered a roof collapse across an area measuring approximately 60 by 40 meters.
