“surprise Kharkiv offensive”? What kind of nonsense is that? The RuSSian troop buildup there took several weeks. Sadly, most of that time, Ukraine couldn’t do much against that, because of ammunition shortage. That was the problem, not an imaginary “surprise”. 🙄
Yes the title is in error Sir Gray. We watched this stuff coming in like the tide. There was no surprise about it, though came a little earlier than predictions. Delay in supplies did make it more challenging in this and other sectors, contributing to needless pain, death, suffering, and destruction.
Putin may gave hastened the offensive to use the rapidly closing window of opportunity, before US supplies come in at a steady stream and the new Ukrainian recruits have been trained. Sad to say, that apparently was a smart move. So far, Ukrainian defence is strong, but not strong enough to prevent RuSSian advances. In light of this, Budanov’s alarm about a lack of reserves is very disturbing. What now? Is Nato ready to step in and save the day? 😕
It would help a lot to give Ukraine permission to use Western arms and ammo on mafia land. The cowardice and stupidity of Scholz, Biden, et al, is just mind-boggling.
