President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has received a report from Ukraine’s negotiating team, which met with US President Donald Trump’s representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in the United States last weekend.

Details: Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready for meaningful decisions and de-escalation measures to bring an end to the war closer.
He pointed out that Ukraine has supported an energy ceasefire and is ready to give assurances that it would uphold it, as announced by Trump, and that Russia should take corresponding steps.
Quote: “As of now, there is no indication that Russia is complying with the conditions outlined by the American president. Unfortunately, there were strikes on our energy infrastructure yesterday, and strikes on our energy infrastructure continue today. All day long, there have been air raid alerts across Ukraine, Russian Shaheds are being used, and aerial bomb strikes continue. If these strikes are indeed Russia’s response to the US president’s statement, it means the Russians have squandered yet another opportunity to bring peace closer.”
Details: Zelenskyy said much depends on the US side “for de-escalation to actually succeed”.
“Pressure on Russia is needed. We continue to communicate with the American side at all levels. We defined the next steps and the diplomatic framework,” he concluded.
Background:
- Last weekend, Witkoff and Kushner met with Ukraine’s negotiating team and representatives of European countries in Miami. The talks ended earlier than planned.
- Meanwhile, Trump said he had spoken to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on supplying Russian diesel fuel to the US and global markets.
- Axios reported that Trump decided to make a deal with Russia after Zelenskyy ignored half a dozen US requests to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries.
- During the talks with the Ukrainian team, Witkoff and Kushner also threatened to stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine over its strikes on Russian oil refineries.
