A dramatic scene depicting thick clouds of dark smoke and bright flames from a fire or explosion in an urban setting during twilight.

On the night of September 12, Ukrainian drones visited at least two Russian cities – Tolyatti in the Samara region and Taganrog in the Rostov region. In the first of them, a strike was carried out on the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant, which specializes, in particular, in the production of products unique to Russia.

And in Taganrog, after the attack, a fire broke out on the territory of a bankrupt automobile factory where attack drones are currently being assembled, and a military airfield was also hit. This was reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova+, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the details of the operation.

“Our long-range responses make the war tangible for the aggressor every day. During this day, two Russian chemical industry enterprises in the Perm and Samara regions were hit,” the Ukrainian leader wrote.

According to the president, in Taganrog, the Ukrainian military struck production facilities for the production of FPV drones, warehouses with drones, a tank with oil products, a radar station, and a Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft missile and gun complex. In addition, an oil industry facility was struck in Perm.

“I am grateful to everyone who fairly responds to the Russians for all their terrorist attacks on our people. The war must return home. This is important,” Zelenskyy concluded.

Explosions in Tolyatti

The explosions in Tolyatti, Samara Region, Russia, became known closer to the morning. Russians complained about the attack, which, according to preliminary data, was carried out at the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant.

Judging by the footage taken by eyewitnesses, a fire broke out there.

Over time, the fire only grew stronger.

The KuibyshevAzot Chemical Plant produces caprolactam, ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulfate, ammonia, weak nitric acid, polyamide-6, and high-strength technical thread.

The defeat of KuibyshevAzot is also confirmed by the Exile+ channel.

Exile+ analysis.

Exile+ noted that the enterprise is of great importance for the Russian military-industrial complex due to the production of chemical raw materials and polymer materials, which are used in numerous industrial and technical productions. In particular, the plant is a large producer of caprolactam, polyamide-6, technical threads and tire cord. The scale of production is about 50% of Russian caprolactam and 75% of tire cord. The enterprise actually monopolizes certain types of polyamide products on the Russian market.

“Thus, the destruction of such enterprises is a blow not only to a separate plant, but also to the production chain that provides Russian industry and the military-industrial complex with the necessary materials. In recent days, the SSR has continued to systematically strike the enemy’s chemical industry, gradually creating major problems for the raw material and production base of the Russian military-industrial complex,” the channel’s authors summarized.

But the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the destruction of the Togliattikauchuk plant.

“On the night of September 12, 2026, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Togliattikauchuk plant in Togliatti, Samara Region, Russia. A hit and subsequent fire were recorded on the territory of the enterprise. The Togliattikauchuk plant specializes in the production of synthetic rubbers, monomers, fractions, and high-octane additives to gasoline. Synthetic rubbers, in particular, are used in the production of solid rocket fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles, they noted.

The General Staff added that the extent of the damage caused is being clarified, and work on key enemy military-industrial facilities is ongoing.

Attack on Taganrog

It was also noisy that night in Taganrog, Rostov Region.

There, as Exilenova+ writes, an automobile factory was under attack.

“In Taganrog, the territory of the Taganrog Automobile Plant was attacked; a tank is on fire,” the message states.

NASA satellites are recording a fire on the territory of this enterprise. At least two fire centers are visible. And smoke is rising over the city.

As an OSINT expert from the independent Russian publication ASTRA has established, smoke is rising, in particular, from the military airfield in Taganrog.

Taganrog-Central is a military airfield in Rostov Oblast, Russia, located within the city of Taganrog. The airfield is home to the 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment.

Also nearby is the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, which repairs transport aircraft and components.

Exilenova+ also reported that in Taganrog,” an airfield and a military town were attacked, and a fire is currently ongoing there.”

Local channels confirmed that the drone attack was successful.

“Taganrog, unfortunately, there are consequences on the ground. Emergency services are working. The rest of the information will come later from official services,” they wrote.

Later, confirmation was received from the city authorities.

“This night our city was subjected to a massive air attack. Air defense forces destroyed a UAV over the city. There are fire centers. Emergency services specialists are working at the sites of falling debris. There are no injuries. Information about the consequences on the ground will be clarified,” said the mayor of Taganrog, Svetlana Kambulova.

The SBU confirmed the attack

The Security Service of Ukraine confirmed that on the night of September 12, it struck the production of FPV drones and UAV warehouses near Taganrog.

“On the night of September 12, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted an operation in the Taganrog area of the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, during which it struck a number of important Russian military facilities,” the report says.

Thus, the drones of the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center successfully worked on:

  •  Two UAV storage warehouses;
  • FPV drone production facility;
  • Anti-aircraft missile and gun complex “Pantsyr-S2”;
  • Tank with fuel and lubricants;
  • Radar P-18 “Terek”.

The SBU also added that fires were recorded at all affected facilities.

“The destruction of production and storage facilities for UAVs and FPV drones reduces the ability of Russian troops to use them against Ukraine. This is a direct response to Russia’s massive attacks, during which the enemy launches strike drones for terror and strikes on the civilian infrastructure of our state,” the SBU noted.

Smoke over Taganrog

But the governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, who “shot down” “over 70 UAVs” overnight, noticed only “an occupation of a store building” in Taganrog.

Cars have not been produced at this plant for a long time: in 2014 the enterprise was declared bankrupt. Instead, drones are assembled there. According to some reports, the assembly of Molniya strike and reconnaissance drones and the production of components for Orion heavy UAVs have been launched at the TagAZ workshops.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the day before, on September 11, the Ozon warehouse near Saratov in Russia burned to the ground after a drone attack. This is confirmed by satellite images.

On the same day, the Defense Forces struck a strategic enterprise in Volgograd, where Ukrainian Flamingo cruise missiles arrived.

And in the Perm region, a chemical plant was attacked.
