Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces reportedly destroyed two Tor-M2 short-range air defense systems in temporarily occupied south of Ukraine
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces have reportedly struck two russian Tor-M2 short-range air defense systems in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Special Operations Forces said one of the systems was hit during the night of May 29 near Berdiansk. Operators from the middle strike unit reportedly targeted Tor-M2 system while it was being transported by truck along the M-14 highway.
The route is considered one of russia’s key logistical arteries in the south of Ukraine, connecting russian territory with temporarily occupied Crimea and supporting the movement of troops, military equipment, and supplies. Ukrainian officials emphasized that the strike was carried out more than 150 kilometers from the front line.
Another Tor-M2 system was reportedly struck earlier near Melitopol. Ukrainian forces did not disclose what weapons or drones were used in either attack.
The Tor-M2 is one of russia’s primary short-range air defense systems designed to protect troops and critical infrastructure from aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles. The system can carry up to 16 missiles and is considered an important component of layered russian air defense.
By targeting such systems, Ukrainian forces are likely attempting to weaken russia’s ability to protect logistics hubs, troop concentrations, and supply corridors in temporarily occupied territories. Destroying or disabling air defense assets can also create more favorable conditions for future drone and missile operations.
The Special Operations Forces stated that Ukrainian forces continue to maintain fire control over the M-14 highway and are systematically targeting russian military equipment, logistics, and personnel moving along the route as part of a broader campaign to disrupt russian operations in the south of Ukraine.
