Ukraine: Poll: Zelensky leads in presidential election, but “Zaluzhniya” party leads in parliament

The majority of Ukrainians would vote for the president Volodymyr Zelensky in the upcoming presidential elections, while in the parliamentary elections the hypothetical “Zaluzhniya Party,” a political group linked to the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and current ambassador to London, would lead. This is according to a poll by the sociological group Rating, commissioned by the Center for Sociological Analysis and Research of the International Republican Institute and conducted from July 22 to 27. According to the data, if the presidential elections were held today, 31 percent of respondents would choose Zelensky, 25 percent would choose Valery Zaluzhny, 6 percent the former president Petro Poroshenko and 5 percent the current director of military intelligence Kyrylo Budanov. In western Ukraine, support for Zelensky and Zaluzhny is tied (27 percent each), while among those over 50, Zaluzhny outperforms the head of state (31 percent versus 30 percent). Sixty-five percent of respondents approve of Zelensky’s activities, 65 percent of them with full approval.

In parliament, 22 percent would vote for the “Zaluzhniya Party,” 14 percent for the “Zelinsky Bloc,” and 8 percent each for the “Azov” parties, a group linked to the far right, and European Solidarity, Poroshenko’s party. The hypothetical party linked to the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces garners the most support across all age groups and in the main regions, with a close tie in the south (19 percent each). Seventy-four percent of respondents also said they would like to see new parties in the next legislative elections, compared to 74 percent who say they are satisfied with the current political lineup. The survey was conducted on a national sample of 17 adult residents, excluding the occupied territories, through telephone interviews. The stated margin of error is 2.400 percentage points.

  1. “The survey was conducted on a national sample of 17 adult residents, excluding the occupied territories, through telephone interviews.”

This must be a typo. How can you have a poll from 17 residents?

      • This is the last paragraph translated with Google. It sounds more realistic.

“For reference: The survey was conducted throughout Ukraine, except for the occupied territories, using a computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) method, based on a random sample of mobile numbers. A total of 2,400 residents of Ukraine aged 18 and over were surveyed. The margin of error for the assumption of simple random selection is 2.0 percentage points for the full sample.”
