russia are losing the artillery war in Ukraine – according to the latest update russia has now lost more then 15.000 artillery systems in Ukraine (15.694 to be precise) and each day approx. 50 russian artillery systems are destroyed, many of these are now towed artillery like the 1950´s M-46, this artillery system is difficult to transport, man power heavy and was replaced by russia in the 1970´s, now these are pulled out of stock, refurbished and shipped to Ukraine. Basically this will accelerate the number of russian artillery systems destroyed daily. In total russia had 665 M-46s in long term stock when they began their failed invasion.
And important to notice that russias alternative to using the vintage M-46s is no artillery….
On the Ukrainian side, especially after the munitions have begun a steady flow, we find much more modern artillery systems delivered such as the Archer, the AS90, the CAESAR and HIMARS, these systems do hold 4 great advantages compared to russia, which only advantage is numbers.
1) BETTER PRECISION, the NATO standard artillery are more precise then russian artillery
2) LONGER RANGE, NATO artillery do have a longer range then russian artillery which is a very significant advantage on the battlefield
3) FASTER IN/OUT OF FIRING POSITIONS, this makes russian counter artillery fire much less effective
4) QUALITY OF AMMUNITION, NATO has high standards related to artillery ammunition, russia has gotten munition from North Korea which are 122mm-ish, the amount of propellent (gunpowder) varies and some come with copper wire others without. This further decreases the precision of russian artillery.
There are other advantages such as Ukraine has been very effective in destroying russian artillery radars, making russian counter battery fire much more difficult. You can also add the protection of the personel and better intell.
Arm Ukraine today or fight russia tomorrow – Arming Ukraine is the fastest path to peace no matter if you support a Ukrainian win on the battlefield or negotiations.
